Welcome to "Mapping Music Education Research," a Blended Intensive Programme designed for graduate students who wish to contribute to the development of a global understanding of music education and its evolving research landscape. This Erasmus exchange offers a unique opportunity to critically engage with contemporary issues shaping music education worldwide.
In an era marked by rapid change, music teacher education programs face complex challenges, including the need to balance traditional pedagogical frameworks with contemporary musical practices and diverse educational demands. This BIP addresses these complexities by inviting participants to delve into critical areas such as postmodernity and globalization, cognitive musicology, community music, technology, and AI in Music Education.
Throughout both the online and on-site phases of this program, participants will engage in a critical examination of current systemic issues within music teacher education. The BIP aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, enabling you to explore the implications of these topics for your own music teaching and learning practices.
Join us to gain a holistic understanding of the multifaceted demands of contemporary music education and prepare to be an innovative, agentic, and empowering music educator for the 21st century.
The online phase of the BIP is scheduled to begin in March 2026. The in-person phase will take place from May 18 to 23, 2026, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Philosophy, Department of Music Studies, in Athens, Greece.
