Τίτλος: Researching professional development of mathematics teachers and teacher educators: The use of video-based data
Περίληψη: The professional development of mathematics teachers, and more recently also of mathematics teacher educators, is the focus of various kinds of research. Often, such research makes use of video-recorded data, gathered from classrooms, from TPD (Teacher Professional Development) meetings, from FPD (Facilitator Professional Development) meetings and from other relevant contexts. The question of how this type of data may be efficiently and reliably analyzed is key to the productiveness of PD research.
In my talk, I will discuss different sorts of video-based data, and review several approaches to the analysis of recorded data. Specifically, I will refer to the role of theoretical frameworks in this process, and how frameworks designed to unpack professionalization processes of mathematics teachers may be ‘lifted’ to unpack professionalization processes of teacher educators and PD facilitators. To illustrate the use of frameworks, I will share examples of analyses performed in three projects within my research group.
Pending on time constraints, a short “hands-on“ analysis activity will be presented and enacted.
